Ten Places to Watch in 2010

Energy codes are advancing quickly, but not everyone’s moving at the same speed. State and local adoption varies widely across the country, and even from city to city. The goal of BCAP’s Ten Places to Watch in 2010 campaign is to identify ten areas that are demonstrating a real commitment to promoting energy efficient buildings and highlight their work in adoption, compliance training or enforcement programs, above-code innovations, or some other area. Rather than merely document their success, however, our objective is to build and maintain a relationship with the involved parties and keep a pulse on the ins-and-outs of policy development as it happens. Using OCEAN as an interactive medium, we will monitor successes and failures, encourage dialogue with interested outside organizations, and promote these policies and activities as best practices and lessons learned from which other places can learn.
The Ten Places to Watch in 2010 campaign offers regions, states, and cities the chance to gain publicity and recognition for their hard work and dedication. It also allows them to advance their goals with the support of BCAP and its new online energy codes network, OCEAN, a virtual meeting place for discussion, collaboration, online resources, and information-sharing. Participation in the Ten Places campaign will most likely include in-depth features and regular updates, interaction with and feedback from national experts and other stakeholders, and exposure during national and regional conferences attended by BCAP staff and allies.
